City Candidate Nomination Information and Paperwork
*Please note that the candidate filing period starts on Monday, August 25, 2025 and ends at 5PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025. City Candidates file nomination papers with the County Auditor.
Nomination Petition - 10 signatures required for cities with population of 10,000 or less, however more are encouraged. Top portion must be filled out correctly BEFORE collecting Signatures

Nomination Petition - Adair-Casey CSD - 14 signatures required; Nodaway Valley CSD -29 signatures required; Orient-Macksburg CSD -10 signatures required; however, more are encouraged.

Voter Registration
Pre-registration deadline for voter registration closes at 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2025. Persons wishing to participate in this election who register to vote after October 20, 2025, will be required to provide proof of identification (i.e. current and valid photo identification card with an expiration date), AND proof of residency in their voting precinct, when they go to the polls on election day, or when they request an absentee ballot. Other provisions may also apply. Persons not registered to vote by October 20, 2025, should expect a longer processing time at the polls on election day.
Absentee Ballots
Absentee Ballot Request Forms will be accepted beginning Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Ballots will be available to be mailed and vote in-person beginning Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
- The last day to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to a voter for this election is Monday, October 20, 2025. (Postal delivery is now two to five days each way.)
- In-person absentee voting in the office of the Adair County Auditor opens at 8:00 a.m on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
- In-person absentee voting in the office of the Adair County Auditor closes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025.
- Requests for absentee ballots must be in writing and should be mailed or delivered to:

Voted absentee ballots returned by mail MUST be returned no later than 8:00 p.m. on ELECTION DAY, Tuesday, November 4, 2025 to be considered on time to be counted.
Extended Hours
Extended hours are available for voter registration and absentee voting in the Adair County Auditor’s Office. In addition to regular hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., extended office hours during the 2025 city/school election season will be as follows:
- Thursday, September 18 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, September 23- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, October 6 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, October 20 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday, October 31 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, November 4 - 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.* or later, depending on election activities
- Monday, November 17 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Recount Request Deadline)
- 1 Saturday date may be added at a later date
